What is the essence of the Singapore teaching methodology?
The methodology is based on the system of corporate, collaborative learning (Dr. Spencer Kagan, a former Soviet and later American specialist). Students achieve learning outcomes in interaction with each other. The educational process is aimed at increasing the motivation of students and increasing their interest in learning. Lessons are conducted according to some given algorithms, which are a set of theses and formulas, from which, as from LEGO cubes, the lesson is built. The main advantage and at the same time difference from the traditional method is the fact that students, whether they want it or not, have to learn to think independently, answer questions, complement each other, exchange views, defend their beliefs. They develop oral speech, communication, cooperation, critical thinking, creativity, increase motivation to the subject, which leads to more effective development of the educational program. In turn, the use of educational structures allows a new rethinking of the educational process, in which the center of the class is the student, not the teacher. The teacher ceases to be the only source of knowledge in the classroom that dictates to everyone what to do – he helps children develop and learn.
